2012 Academy Awards Jewelry Dainty Diamonds, Emeralds and Angelina’s Right Leg
While blue ruled the runway at fashion weeks all over the world, we were surprised to see that it didn’t make as much of a splash on the red carpet. Tina Fey was the only star to wear Carolina Herrera and she paired her navy blue gown with sapphire shoulder duster earrings by Bulgari. Busy Phillips made a statement with blue geometric Irene Neuwirth earrings. Leslie Mann topped her look with Lorraine Schwartz sapphire earrings that accompanied her blue Roberto Cavalli gown beautifully.
Red was huge on the red carpet as the past Emmy Awards, and last night the trend continued. Emma Stone took the trend to the next level with Louis Vuitton ruby earrings, making her a triple threat with her red hair and red Giambattista Valli gown. Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams were also glowing in crimson.
Yellow gold is quite possibly the most consistent trend we have seen on the red carpet and the runway. Everything from jewelry to gowns has been glowing in this metallic hue so far this year. Jessica Chastain wore a black and gold Alexander McQueen gown and sparkled with $2 million worth of Harry Winston jewels. Bridesmaids’ Ellie Kemper went for a more copper hue with an Armani Prive gown paired with glowing gold Lorraine Schwartz statement jewelry. Best Actress Meryl Streep resembled the statue resting in her hand as she glowed head to toe in a gold Lanvin gown and gold drop earrings. Although George Clooney didn’t receive an Oscar, his trophy was literally by his side all night as Stacy Keibler was truly breathtaking in a gold Marchesa gown and huge gold and diamond earrings.
It was a snow-white show last night with many stars bravely donning the pale shade. Gwyneth Platrow, Milla Jovovich, Shailene Woodley, Octavia Spencer and Guiliana Rancic were among those in bridal tones.
Celebs love emeralds on the red carpet. With a winning streak like this, we won’t be waving goodbye to green jewels anytime soon. Viola Davis and Berenice Bejo were both gorgeous in green gowns and jewels.
No surprise that cuffs and bangles had a huge showing last night. All season the red carpet has been filled with stars wearing this ‘arm candy’ and we can’t get enough of it. While Gwyneth Paltrow took the cake with a huge Anna Hu diamond cuff, Milla Jovovich, Viola Davis, Kristen Wiig and Ellie Kemper also rocked Woman Woman flair.
Dainty Diamond Earrings
Don’t get us wrong, we love a great pair of diamond earrings, but it is all too common on the red carpet and it leaves us jewelry mavens praying for more bling every awards season. While Jennifer Lopez wowed us with her dress, her earrings could have dropped a bit closer to her shoulder – she has worn more bling on American Idol this season. Angelina Jolie wore small diamond stud earrings as per usual, although we all know it was her right leg that was getting all the attention anyway. Sandra Bullock, Shailene Woodley, Maya Rudolph and Penelope Ann Miller also wore diamond earrings that left us wanting more from such big stars.
‘Dust Your Shoulders Off’ Earrings
On the other hand, there were several stars who did not disappoint when it came to topping off their looks with a little sparkle in a big way. They’ve been called “shoulder dusters” this awards season and big statement earrings are officially so 2012! Bridesmaids’ Rose Byrne had huge pearl Chanel Earrings hanging down to her shoulders, while Octavia Spencer sparkled in diamond dangle earrings. Busy Phillips earrings were big, bold, and blue while Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig also added some sideline sparkle to their complexions with dangle earrings.
We’ve been complaining about the lack of neckwear at award shows all season, and finally stylists heard our cries for help. Possibly the biggest trend of the night was the range of stars wearing carat-heaving diamond necklaces. What Michelle Williams lacked in earwear she made up for in a Fred Leighton diamond necklace. Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Missi Pyle, and last year’s Best Actress Natalie Portman all shimmered with choker-length diamond bling around their necks
